Dead Glasgow
2020-2022
Limited Edition Fine Art Prints
This series is dedicated to my Father; David Thomson Wilson, 1944-2022.
As we grow older, isolation becomes familiar to us, leading into a madness of sorts.
There is always hope when loved ones are around, so reach out to one another.
My Father’s final two years of life were locked in the dungeon of dementia. Cloaked within such a brutal torture, his spirit fought like a lion to the end. Death was his black ink dot turning out his fire and the colours of his creative lights. It all turned Whistler black in the end days, all that was left was to hope he did not suffer pain.
I would bicycle to the care home and span time with him, afterwards, I would cycle over Glasgow. Visiting cemeteries, trying to process the horror of his condition. Only torment existed, there were no answers. I found solace in the tombstones and the peaceful dead resting under forest canopy. Engaging with citizen, dog-walkers, smiling softly without words or saying thanks to strangers, acknowledging the fact that together, we still had life, flowing amongst the stillness of trees.
Dave Wilson, 77 years of age. died on the 4th of July, 2022, around midnight.
His final image I took at Mackintosh’s Hill House, Helensbrough.
He is at home amongst the great Scottish artists.
